The Big Time

And as per usual it's been awhile. I'm nothing if not consistent. But I wanted to log back into my blog- purely because I've had it for too long not too. And it's kind of fascinating.

Lots has actually changed since March- new office, new house. The era of Potatau St closed last week, which we were all very sad about. And right now, I'm sitting in my new apartment/office wondering which foodcourt is really closest to Western Springs (in reality it's St Lukes, but I'm just not going to go there, it's Friday night and I'm tired...oh and being given more work).

Hannah's tonight- oh yeah, she came back. Which is so fantastic. Plus she had a great time.

In the lamest of blogging tradition, I'm going to sign off and promise to do better next time.

Plus, I'm introducing a new feature. The Asian Ice Cream Review. Enjoy...

Poky Little Puppy

I found this guy on the weekend, and it subsequently took me and Meredith an hour and a half to get out of the pet shop. So sweet!

The End is Nigh...Sandwich Board Optional

I thought it would never happen, but on Sunday my cat Willow died. My parents chose to tell me this at lunch on Monday. I was having a bad week to begin with. As follows:

Bea: Thanks for having lunch with me guys. Your support is really great (still wondering why SO much support)

Mum: There's something we have to tell you. We've lost the cat.

Bea: I'm sure it will turn up (juice arrives)

Mum: She's...in the garden

Bea: Well, she's not lost then is she? (looking for imported Vogue)

Mum: She's...gone to sleep

Bea: I'm not sure I need an hourly cat bulletin

Dad: Look, the cat's dead alright!

Bea: ...

They really have a way with euphemism. Bless them.

RIP Willow- good job on making it to 17

Anyone?

I'm quite upset with myself for my complete slackness. And with the end of the year drawing near, it's time to think that I've kept this record for almost two years. Which is a reason to keep going. But I've got SIX months to catch up on. Time for bullet points:

1. Quay Street is going and going. Number 7 tonight. Very exciting.

2. I moved twice. Once to a temporary apartment in Parnell which was being renovated and was total hell, and then to my present wonderful flat in Arch Hill with Olly.

3. Have already been through one flatmate there- the sadly missed Julia. She has been replaced by Emily, which is brilliant.

4. Work is busy...I now production manage lots of things. Eek.

5. Writing has been busy. Eek.

6. My parents have sold their companies and gone slightly mad. As far as I can tell they are sitting at home with their new coffee machine.

7. New Years is coming! And we're putting on a party. Fun fun.

Looking at this list, it's blatantly clear to me the biggest change of the last six months. And it's not a good one. Everything has been very rosy, except that Hannah has moved to Paris. Which is amazing, and her stories and photos are wonderful. But I miss her a lot, and definitely feel the void, because as Olly said "she really tied the room together".

YRN

Shame for my first post in a fortnight to be an angry one, but this Canwest deal is really grinding my gears, so to speak. Below is my comment from NZ Music...

Just to put a toe into the fray...the idea of a Youth Radio Network isn't new. 1999 saw the beginnings of a frequency allocation under the National Government. Jenny Shipley launched the initiative and there was lots of admittedly naive excitement. Turned out it was electioneering.
That's water under the bridge now. What is really a kick in the teeth is this happening under Labour and under a government where our Prime Minister is the Minister for the Arts. Because that's the true point of a YRN- it's not exclusively music, it supports the arts. A Youth Radio Network is a conduit for radio drama, discussion, comedy, and building of community among young people. Idealistic? Maybe. But it's not so far removed from the b-Net stations.
And frankly, I can't see any kind of alternative programming that Kiwi FM might offer even touching the potential of a YRN.

In other news, I've finally hit MySpace. Which I've been meaning to for awhile.

QSSC

Looking back at previous posts now. Out of the Question is still ticking. And going well. And the club nights are well under way. The Quay St Social Club will be kicking off on the 3rd of June at the Schooner Tavern, with Andrew dj-ing again. We were down at the Schooner last night and it was lots of fun. And a good party in Grey Lynn followed. The rest of the weekend was equally good, with kareoke madness that culminated in Olly offering to move to China on Friday night, an excellent new cafe on Saturday and spot of art gallery. The Art in the 60s exhibition is well worth it.

This week shaping up as a small nightmare after offering to edit Jonette a film from her birthday party footage. But Omaha is happening again next weekend, always good...
