The long and short of it...

My dentist is a great man. One who managed to fashion me a stand-in tooth in about ten minutes. I'm stoked with my new fill-in tooth and kind of looking forward to getting a veneer in six weeks.

I never thought that would be the high point of my week...

On another note, we're going away to the Gold Coast this weekend. Which I'm not entirely sure about. I'm looking forward to a weekend with my friends, and to seeing my cousin's new baby but I don't know that Gold Coast is my kind of town. But we'll see. It should just be a fun few days at the beach.

And my new tooth is slightly shorter than the other one...

All I Want...

Right now I'm hiding in the house. Last night my front tooth was chipped- and I mean CHIPPED. About a third of it is gone, not to be found, and it's scary to touch and look at. Not only do I look like a convict but tomorrow I have to go to what is still a new job looking like a convict. And just to brilliantly signpost my broken front tooth, my chin is also covered in a not so discreet clear plaster after my tooth took out some chin on the merry way to freedom.

We were all at a friend's holiday house celebrating her 23rd birthday when a friend decided to flying tackle me from the trampoline. Unfortunately I landed on the lantern I was carrying. Possibly the hardest part was trying to convince a group of munted friends that something was in fact wrong. It was very "I've lost a tooth", "Yeah man, I know what you mean". Consequently I forgot to look for my tooth bit. Which is kind of sad, because I've had that tooth for a long time.

And now I have so much dentist action to look forward to...

A Very Big Day

Phew. Big Day Out has passed again. And what an exhausting excercise it was. I can only imagine how the organisers must feel.

I wasn't even planning on going. And I wouldn't have- I was quite firm on that resolve after seeing the awful schedule which had multiple bands I wanted to see all on at the same time. But I had an eleventh hour phone call, giving me a free ticket, and the chance to scribble down some reviews, which can be read on the Xtra site (xtra.co.nz). And it turned out to be a really fun day.

The last few times I've been to Big Day Out, I haven't been amazed. Last year was overrun by Metallica fans, and the time before that it rained. This year I saw less bands (The Donnas, The Hives, Polyphonic Spree, The Beastie Boys) and the huge gaps where no one I wanted to see was on were nicely filled by beers in the sun. And we had a great bunch of people along.

The best thing though was the fact that all the bands were so nice. After the disappointment of the lacklustre Dandy Warhols last year ("We're stoned ha ha") I wasn't holding out much hope for the bands on earlier. But although everyone I saw was playing in extreme heat, to very hot crowds, they totally made the best of it. The showmanship of all the bands was fantastic, they all engaged the audience and best of all, promised to come back.

All in the Mind!

So what to do...

What a weird time of year. So much is happening but again, New Zealand is isolated from it all. Which is something I'm grateful for, but reading emails from friends in Thailand, and watching the news, it seems like you can't really grasp the scope of the impact of the tsunami without being there.

I've just started a new job- fitting for the new year, at a lifestyle tv channel. Not much fun while also battling the cold from hell. Of the eight of us who went away together for New Years, five are sick, and having lots of fun blaming the cold originator.

Hmm, I'm going to ease into this blog thing slowly.
